Why College Students Are Turning To Medical Marijuana To Calm Anxiety

More and more college students are turning to the calming effects of medical marijuana to help with their anxiety!

The rise in popularity of medical marijuana companies such as HWC LLC is leading to many more people across the United States having access to medicinal marijuana. The growing trend of states pushing for more legalized recreational cannabis and medicinal cannabis is allowing people to seek alternative treatments to strong, pharmaceutical medication.

More and more college students and young adults are turning to medical marijuana to help with anxiety disorders. While many students and young adults appear to be confident and outgoing, more and more are being diagnosed with mental disorders such as depression and anxiety. As many as 1 in 4 students are currently suffering from anxiety-related disorders across the United States. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), as many as one in four young adults are suffering from a mental health disorder. Medical cannabis is proving to be a popular treatment alternative for many of these young adults.

A decade ago, or even two decades ago, students and young adults were much less likely to open and speak about the mental health conditions which they are suffering from. Many people believed that mental health issues were not only a sign of weakness and failure, but there was also a general attitude of hostility against people with mental health conditions. We as a society are much more open about the mental health issues we are facing, and how medicinal marijuana can help us.

Where students and young adults used to go out of their way to speak to anyone or seek help regarding their mental health conditions, now they are seeking help in large numbers. This is putting additional strain on an already over utilized and under-budgeted system that is at its bursting point. Now, young adults are more likely to seek help regarding a mental health condition compared to a physical condition.

While many states are currently pushing to legalize medicinal marijuana and recreational marijuana, and many have done so already, doctors and medical professionals in states where cannabis remains illegal are less likely to even speak about medical marijuana as an option. There are several different reasons for this. It could be that they are worried about losing their licenses to practice medicine, or even put their ability to prescribe medication at risk if the federal government was to get involved.

This attitude towards cannabis by medical professionals is slowly changing, but will it change soon enough to help this generation of young adults? Medical marijuana has several benefits over traditionally prescribed medication regarding price and the addictive qualities of pharmaceutical prescriptions. The sooner that we can help change the negative image of cannabis, and reinforce its medicinal properties, the better off this generation of young adults will be. If you’re suffering from anxiety, depression, or any other mental health conditions, don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for help.
