Naturopathic Medicine
Heal Naturally With Long Island's Premiere Naturopathic Physician
Services
You will experience a comprehensive visit where Dr. Prego will elicit a full picture of each patient, including the presenting conditions and health concerns, medical history, diet, lifestyle, and other health habits.

Dr. Prego will make specific suggestions to each patient for the current concerns and to improve overall health. Dr. Prego supports the patient as a full and active part of the healing process.

Clinical Nutrition
Naturopathic physicians understand that what you eat is the basis for your health. Adopting a healthy diet is often the first step towards correcting health problems. Many medical conditions can be helped more effectively with foods and nutritional supplements than they can by other means, but with fewer complications and side effects. Dr. Prego may use specific individual diets, fasting, and nutritional supplements with their patients.

Botanical Medicine
Plants have powerful healing properties. Many pharmaceutical drugs have their origins in plant substances. Dr. Prego uses plant substances for their healing effects and nutritional value.

Homeopathic Medicine
This gentle yet effective system of medicine is more than 200 years old and is based on the principle that 'Like cures Like'. Homeopathic medicines are very small doses of natural substances that can stimulate the body's self-healing response without side effects. Some conditions for which conventional medicine has no effective treatments will respond well to homeopathy.

Physical Medicine
Naturopathic medicine includes methods of therapeutic manipulation for muscles and bones. Dr. Prego may also employ therapeutic exercise, massage, hydrotherapy, gentle electrical therapies, ultrasound, and heat and cold. These services are not available in NY until the licensing law is passed.

Lifestyle Counseling and Stress Management
Mental attitudes and emotional states can be important elements in healing and disease. Dr. Prego is trained in counseling, nutritional balancing, and stress management. He also attends to environmental and lifestyle factors that affect health.

Dr. Prego was recently voted "Best Alternative Health Doctor on Long Island."

Naturopathic Medicine: Personalized Natural Care For You and Your Family
A Natu
ropathic Doctor (ND) is a primary care, general practitioner trained as an expert in natural medicine. NDs are the only primary care doctors clinically trained in the use of a wide variety of natural therapeutics. Patients consult with NDs for preventive medicine as well as for almost all acute and chronic conditions.

Naturopathic doctors attempt to find the underlying cause of the patient's condition and promote wellness in body and mind, rather than focus solely on symptomatic treatment.

NDs refer and collaborate with other medical professionals. They will refer patients to other practitioners when appropriate. Naturopathic medicine can complement other medical care and offer recommendations to lessen the adverse effects and speed recovery time.

Education
A Naturopathic Doctor (ND) attends a four-year, fully accredited medical school and is educated in all of the same basic and clinical sciences as other medical doctors and also studies many alternative medical modalities, such as clinical nutrition, homeopathy, botanical medicine, hydrotherapy and counseling. In addition, a naturopathic doctor takes rigorous professional basic science and clinical board exams so that he or she may be licensed by a state or jurisdiction as a primary care general practice physician.

Naturopathic medical schools have admission requirements and coursework comparable to those of conventional medical schools.
